HOPE has 2 Book Clubs. Everyone is welcome to attend one or the other, or both!
The Daytime Book Club meets the fourth Monday of the month unless that day is a holiday. We don’t meet in January, February, June or July. We gather at HOPE or the Kinni View Deli at noon. More information can be found each month in This Week at HOPE. The next meeting is Monday March 25, 2019. Discussing: Pachinko by Min Jin Lee.
April 22nd – The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah
May 20th – The President is Missing by Bill Clinton & James Patterson
The Evening Book Club meets the last Monday of each month, September through May, usually at 7pm at a member’s home. Community members and friends are always welcome to join us for an evening of lively conversation starting with the recommended monthly book, but always leading the group in new directions! The evening also includes refreshments as the group shares reading recommendations and makes plans for future gatherings. For further information, please call the church office. The next meeting will be hosted by Roger and Verna Tweiten on Monday, February 25th, 7pm, at their home, 3414 Cambridge Place, in Sterling Ponds, just a block west of Hope Lutheran.
Our book for February is Fascism: A Warning, by Madeline Albright which is “A personal and urgent examination of Fascism in the twentieth century and how its legacy shapes today’s world, written by one of America’s most admired public servants, the first woman to serve as U.S. secretary of state. A Fascist, observes Madeleine Albright, “is someone who claims to speak for a whole nation or group, is utterly unconcerned with the rights of others, and is willing to use violence and whatever other means are necessary to achieve the goals he or she might have.”
Please let the Tweitens know if you can attend the meeting, to help them in their preparations!
